Gale Bellew
Fiber Artist
Originally from Maine, US, Gale has been practicing various Fiber Arts for most of her life. Her serious passion for Fiber began in 1989 while she was raising llamas and angora rabbits and she learned to spin and felt their luxurious hair. In 2004 she developed an art form which she calls Hairlock Painting ™ and trademarked in 2007. More recently she has been working with silk as she experiments with Shibori dyeing, and Nuno felting which is a surface design technique using wool on silk. Additionally, she knits, needle felts, wet felts, stitches, weaves, and creates wire & fibre jewelry. Her work is shown each year at various Art Shows, the Bermuda Fibre Festival, as well as the Fiber Center in Maine where she was the Guest Artist in 2007.
In addition to creating her Artwork Gale has been managing The Fiber Exhibit at Maine’s Blue Ribbon Classic agricultural fair for more than 17 years and has been organizing the Bermuda Fibre Festival since it began in 2007.
Gale enjoys sharing her passion for Fibre and currently teaches Fibre Arts to children and adults at Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation in Bermuda.
